What's the Weather at Setley?
To be honest, your guess is as good as our's but here are some resources that we find useful, use them at your own risk! Important: The web page images are examples from some time ago, you must visit the actual web sites to get today's information.
Setley Weather Station
|
| Actually, we don't have a Setley Weather Station but here is some information for Lymington. Unfortunately it's only updated once a day. Click on "Lymington" in the graphic to get more information, and summary forecasts for the coming days. |
XCweather
XCweather was originally created to provide weather information for glider pilots planning cross country ("XC") flights. It's a good source of continuously updated weather observations and also weather forecasts. The information comes from Weather Service computers in the USA where the data is "public domain" and not subject to the commercial restrictions that the UK Government imposes on the Met Office.
Wind observation over the UK updated every 10 minutes. Click on a location to get a summary forecast for the next few days. |
You can get a more detailed forecast interpolated to relate to your chosen location. It covers the next week but the accuracy is not guaranteed! |
Met Office Rain Radar
The Met Office rain radar shows where rain is falling over the UK. By viewing the animation you can guess if, when, and how intensely, it is going to rain at Setley. One warning, light rain or drizzle does not always show up on the radar observations, in contrast it tends to appear too often in the forecasts! There are presently two sources of rain information on the Met Office site (I prefer the "trial weathermap page"):
The "official rain radar page" shows observations for the last 6 hours updated every half hour |
The "trial weathermap page" gives a choice of weather forecasts, satellite images, and rain information. You can view rain radar observations every 15 minutes for the last 2 hours and rain forecasts upto a day or so ahead. |
Met Office Inshore Coastal Waters Forecast
The inshore coastal waters forecast is part of the morning "Shipping Bulletin" and one of the few weather forecasts on the radio which gives an indication of the likely winds. If you don't wake up early you can read it on the Met Office web site (or on the BBC site).
Met Office Surface Pressure Maps
If you prefer to see a "proper weather map" the Met Office Surface Pressure Charts are published at about 0730 GMT daily and show the analysis for the previous midnight ("t+0") and forecast charts at 12 hour intervals for the next 3.5 days (i.e. up to "t+84").
