May 2010: Vintage Model Yacht Group visit Setley Pond

Members of the Vintage Model Yacht Group visited the Setley Pond on the 9th May 2010; there are photos of their models "free sailing" (no radio control), and occassionally flirting with danger at the southern end of the pond, in our "Latest Photos Gallery".

April 2010: Discounts on 2.4GHz radio sets

Drama at the pond on Sunday 4th April when Nigel Harper's cargo ship took on water and capsized; fortunately the model was salvaged without loss of parts (or life!). Unconnected with that incident, Nigel is offering Planet 2.4GHz Transmitter and Receiver sets at his Milford Models store at a special price to SRCMBC members on production of their membership card.

March 2010: Annual Exhibition at Highcliffe

The Club's Annual Exhibition took place in the Methodist Hall, Lymington Road, Highcliffe on Saturday 13th March in collaboration with the local Branch of the RNLI. There was an impressive range of models on display, see our Latest Events photo gallery. The event raised over £600 for the RNLI and the club received a letter of thanks.

SRCMBC member Alan Furness is featured in the March 2010 issue of Model Boats Magazine. He describes the enjoyment he has had building models from the free plans featured in the magazine. The photo (left) shows one of the featured models, the Pilot Boat "Pathfinder". More photographs of Alan's models are in his Photo Gallery.

February 2010: In Memoriam: Arthur Lord

It is with great regret that we have to inform you that Arthur Lord passed away on 2nd February, 2010. One of the Club's founding members, Arthur has been a staunch supporter of the club over many years. The Funeral was held on Monday 15th February at All Saints Church, Milford On Sea.The New Milton Advertiser (20th February, 2010) carried an Obituary for Arthur. Our sympathy to his wife, Rene, his children, and grandchildren. The club made a donation in Memory of Arthur.

January 2010: Winter at the pond

Photos of Setley Pond on Sunday, 10th January, taken by David McNair-Taylor (view as a photo album). An increasing easterley wind has blown snow across the ice and the Brockenhurst to Lymington railway line (which runs close to the pond) has been struggling to provide a service.

January 6th and snow covers much of southern England. Here are some photos of what it was like at Setley pond. The snow was nowhere near as deep as other places nearby, even so, don't expect much model boat action! The last photo shows the area behind the car park... lots of solid water and very wintery!

A New Year and a New Pond... the water level is higher and the island has disappeared, but on the 3rd January the pond's got a solid lid on it! What's more the weather forecast does not promise a thaw; maybe the Setley Pond Gulf Stream has shut down!
